What Do You Do If Your Job Isn’t Real Yet?

B.C. Dodge explores a thought-provoking question: What if the job you’re meant to have hasn’t been invented yet?

While scrolling through social media, B.C. came across a tweet from Intel suggesting that some of the most critical jobs of 2030 don’t exist today. This idea resonates deeply with B.C., who has spent years emphasizing this to his kids.

As a digital marketer who graduated high school in the 90s, B.C. reflects on how the internet was still in its infancy back then. Social media, as we know it, didn’t exist, and even AOL chat rooms were far from mainstream. His school didn’t have internet access, making it challenging to envision a career in a digital world that hadn’t emerged yet.

Struggling to define his career path, he spent countless hours in the guidance office, searching for direction. The idea of becoming a digital marketer wasn’t an option because the field didn’t exist. He eventually found his calling in the early 2000s, but it took nearly two decades of perseverance and adaptability.

His key message to today’s teens: Don’t be discouraged if you can’t find a career that fits you now. The job that aligns with your natural talents might not even be invented yet. Stay curious, keep learning, and be ready for future opportunities.
