Mordant Mahon talk to Wasif Qureshi, Manager of IRUSA’s refugee assistance program , in this episode of “What a Relief!” — IRUSA’s official podcast.

When a refugee family arrives in the United States, how much support do they really have? How much time ticks away before they need to figure out how to survive alone, and what hurdles do they have to overcome?

On today’s episode of “What a Relief!” guest Wasif Qureshi gives the inside story on these questions and shares many stories along the way.

Qureshi manages IRUSA’s refugee assistance program in North Carolina—a state that he says resettles more refugees than any other on the East Coast other than New York.

The new arrivals are expected to settle into a job and support themselves within three months. But what happens when they don’t speak English yet? What about the ones who are overqualified and stuck in menial jobs? What about those who can’t work until medical emergencies are treated?

That’s where IRUSA’s program steps in. Tune in to hear how it works.
