“What A Relief” Podcast 17: Myanmar Through the Eyes of a Relief Worker

The Rohingya: Persecution Through the Eyes of a Relief WorkerB.C. Dodge & R. Mordant Mahon talk to IRUSA’s Bilal Aslam about his recent travels to Myanmar in this episode of “What a Relief!” — IRUSA’s official podcast.

This week, B.C. Dodge and Mordant are joined by Bilal Aslam, the International Program Manager at IRUSA.

They are a people with no home or citizenship, confined to camps that Bilal notes are more like prisons. Conditions there even made it difficult to interact openly. “Police were literally following us around,” he says.

Despite the challenges of the visit, the group was able to collect stories and get a feel for life in the camp. The things they learned were shocking, and in Bilal’s words, “too severe and tragic to be true.”

Check out this episode to hear Bilal’s accounts of his journey, including the story of a woman who managed to escape, what led her to risk it, and the unexpected aftermath of her decision.
